Earlier this year, Munich-based Mutares SE & Co. announced the acquisition of the engineering thermoplastics (ETP) business of Saudi-based SABIC for $450 million. The deal is expected to close in the second half of this year.
It manufactures polycarbonate (PC) resin, compounded polycarbonate and pellets containing polycarbonate, and acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene, or ABS. The products are used in the automotive, construction and healthcare industries, among others.
SABIC has eight production facilities in the Americas and Europe, employing more than 2,900 people. SABIC’s ETP Business is the world’s second-largest producer of PC, the leading ABS producer in the U.S., and the sole producer of Polybutylene Terephthalate, or PBT, in the United States.
