Our Mission
We develop and support relationships and friendships between organizations and individuals in Alabama and Germany. We focus our efforts on three pillars: Education, Business, and Culture.
AlabamaGermany Partnership (AGP) is a statewide, non-profit organization, dedicated to the development of the educational, business, cultural, and social relationships among individuals and organizations with ties to both Alabama and Germany. The organization was formed in 1998 and is membership driven.
about
AGP is governed by a statewide board of 36 directors and 10 officers who meet quarterly to plan activities and events. An executive director works for the board and takes care of the day-to-day operations of the organization.
More than 80+ German companies are represented throughout Alabama. Evonik Industries in Mobile is the oldest German company with operations in Alabama, and the most recognizable is Mercedes-Benz in Vance, which has brought a significant number of suppliers to Alabama.
The organization hosts an annual celebration in different parts of Alabama. In 2026, AGP celebrated its 28th Annual Celebration Dinner at The Club in Birmingham. As in previous years, industrial, cultural, educational, and governmental leaders attended the AGP Annual Celebration event.
Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) from Germany has had a tremendous impact on our state. Germany consistently ranks among the top sources of FDI in the state of Alabama. In 2025, Germany remained a leading source of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and international trade for Alabama, contributing approximately $178.7 million in new foreign capital investments. Over the past few decades, German companies have invested more than $12 billion and created thousands of jobs in the state, making Germany the top historical source of FDI projects (accounting for about 17% of total foreign investments). Last year, Germany continued as a core trade partner, with Alabama exports to Germany reaching $3.4 billion, making Germany the state’s third-largest international export market. Shipments to Germany accounted for roughly 14.3% of total state goods exports. Germany also ranked as one of Alabama’s top import sources.
AGP is an extremely active organization, and many of Alabama’s leading German and American companies are participants in AGP. The organization facilitates meetings between German company leaders, educational groups, and young professionals; and furthermore offers networking opportunities, German dinners, cultural workshops, and business seminars.
