Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark
The tour will start at 5:45 p.m. with one of their knowledgeable tour guides. From 1882 to 1971, one of Alabama’s most iconic landmarks operated as a pig iron-producing blast furnace, invigorating the surrounding economy and propelled Birmingham to national status. It will be an awe-inspired, up-close experience of the size and power of the 20th-century blast furnace, machines, buildings, and other aspects of the furnace that made Sloss run for 90 years. Please wear closed-toed shoes.
The tour will take one hour and then we will walk across the street to the Back Forty Beer Company refreshments. If you can’t make the tour – please join us here around 7:00 p.m.
The new semester has started and we want to start up our Stammtisch meetings again this week. We will meet every other Thursday at 6pm at Little Italy Pizzeria on Magnolia for an informal get together. We hope many of you can join us.
