Auburn University – Engineering Employer Summit @ Brown-Kopel Engineering Student Achievement Center

The Employer Summit is geared toward employers who want to learn more about engaging with Auburn Engineering through recruitment, research, on-line education, and capstone sponsorship. The event is designed to increase the collaboration potential between your company and Auburn Engineering. Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet with other employers as well as undergraduate and graduate students who will share their research and capstone projects. It will be advantageous to have both HR managers and Engineering managers attend.

German Wine Dinner at Bright Star in Bessemer @ Bright Star Restaurant

The Bright Star has fabulous things going on in the month of April. Make plans now to attend their German Wine Dinner featuring wines from Mosel region, Franken region, Pfalz region, Burgenland, Austria region, and Rheinhessen region. Followed with a delicious German inspired dinner.
Course 1:
Currywurst German Bratwurst
-Crispy French fries topped with sliced German bratwurst and currywurst sauce paired with Karthauserhof “Bruno” Dry Riesling 2019, from the Mosel region.
Course 2:
German Baked Snapper in Mustard Cream Sauce
– Fresh fillet of snapper topped with heavy cream and whole grain mustard, baked to perfection. Served with German green bean salad and paired with Hans Wirsching Iphöfer Silvaner 2022, from Franken.
Course 3:
Veal Schnitzel
– Thinly pounded veal tenderloin breaded with panko and lightly fried, served with German potato salad and paired with Becker Pinot Noir 2019, from the Pfalz region.
Course 4:
Beef Rouladen
– Bacon, onions, mustard and pickles wrapped in sliced beef tenderloin over pickled red cabbage paired with Höpler Pannonica Red Blend 2020, from Burgenland, Austria.
Course 5:
German Rote Grütze Dessert
– Fresh red berry compote topped with house made whipped cream paired with Fritz Muller Secco Dry Rose NV, from Rheinhessen.

“The role of the German Volkshochschule in Supporting Democratic Systems in Germany” @ Samford University

This talk will be held at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 in “Brock Forum”. “Brock Forum” is on the first floor of Dwight Beeson Hall in the center of campus, near the library and main fountain at Samford University in Homewood.,
Dr. Peter Buhrmann directs the Association of Rural Folk High Schools (Volkshochschulen) in Germany. A Danish citizen working in Berlin, he oversees forty-six residential schools that are financed by the German Federal Ministry of Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth as well as the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture. In his talk, Dr. Buhrmann will explain how these schools seek to address radicalism and educate the German people to ensure the stability of democracy in increasingly divisive times.

Oktoberfest 5K & Fun Run in Foley

Foley Sister Cities Commission will host its 2nd Annual “Foley Sisters Cities, 5K Octoberfest Run” on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at OWA starting at 9 AM. This fundraiser will assist in raising funds for the student trips and other sister cities’ initiatives. If you wish, come dressed in your German Oktoberfest customs (dirndl and lederhosen). Beer and pretzels will be available.

Awards for the Run are presented 3 deep in each age group (Male & Female – 10 & under, 11-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+) as well as Male & Female Overall, Masters, Grand Masters, Senior Grand Masters.

Awards for the Walk are presented 3 deep in each age group (Male & Female – 10 & under, 11-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+).
