International Holocaust Remembrance Day: “Sweet Noise: Love in Wartime” with Max Hirshfeld @ Homewood Public Library

To commemorate the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, join the Alabama Holocaust Education Center as we welcome Max Hirshfeld at our 2025 International Holocaust Remembrance Day program. A renowned photographer and son of Holocaust survivors, Hirshfeld will discuss his book “Sweet Noise: Love in Wartime” which chronicles his parent’s experiences in Auschwitz and their remarkable story of love during the Holocaust. Hirshfeld will share photographs of his mother’s first return to Poland after forty-six years along with impressions of growing up under the shadow of the Holocaust, as well as letters his parents wrote to each other during a lengthy, post-war separation.

This event will be held at the Homewood Public Library on January 23rd, 2025, from 6:00-7:30pm. While this event is free, registration is required. Register today.

AGP German Business Committee Briefing on Tariffs @ VIRTUAL

Please plan to join us for a Zoom call presentation next Thursday, February 13, from 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. PLEASE NOTE THIS CALL IS ONLY FOR MEMBERS OF THE AGP GERMAN BUSINESS COMMITTEE/GERMAN COMPANIES IN ALABAMA. 
We will be joined by Lee Smith, who leads Baker Donelson’s International Trade and National Security team.
On the call, Lee will do an overview of the new tariffs under the America First Trade Policy, including a 25 percent tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico, a reduced ten percent tariff on Canadian energy, and a ten percent tariff on Chinese imports. Lee served in the first Trump administration and has keen insights into what a second Trump administration will do and how they will accomplish their stated trade goals.  As the situation evolves, Lee is closely monitoring developments and will be able to discuss the potential impacts.
