Come out to network! This is a great opportunity for German expats to meet and for other German speaking/practicing to improve your German. Speaking German is encouraged but not required. We meet every month (every other month will be in Birmingham).

What does “Stammtisch” mean? A Stammtisch is an informal group meeting held on a regular basis, and also the usually large table around which the group meets. A Stammtisch is not a structured meeting, but rather a friendly and casual get-together.

AGP 28th Annual Celebration Dinner in Birmingham @ The Club

Please plan to join us for AGP’s biggest event of the year, which brings German and American leaders from industrial, cultural, educational, and governmental sectors together to celebrate Alabama-Germany Friendship.

We celebrate 28 Years of dedication to the development of educational, cultural, and business relationships among individuals and organizations with ties to both Alabama and Germany.

Registration and networking start at 3:30 p.m. The seated program begins at 4:30 p.m., and the expected dinner time will be around 6 p.m. with plenty of networking opportunities before and after the seated program and dinner. The event will end at 8 p.m.

The program includes recognizing 2025’s New and Expanding German companies in Alabama, the Barbara Fischer Education Award, and the prestigious Rainer Bauer Award.

Ryan Hankins, Ph.D., Executive Director, Public Affairs Research Council of Alabama (PARCA). This presentation delivers a clear-eyed analysis of the public policy trends shaping Alabama’s future. Focusing on education, taxation, state budgets, workforce participation, and demographic change, Dr. Hankins highlights the underlying dynamics driving both opportunity and challenge across the state. With implications for long-term economic development and international investment, the session equips business, government, and education leaders with the insights needed to navigate Alabama’s evolving landscape.

 

“German American Business Outlook (GABO)”

The annual German American Business Outlook (GABO) report is a yearly survey of German American business relations directed at German subsidiaries in the US, assessing current economic developments and trends in transatlantic business. The report will be presented by Jona Rowold, Director of Consulting Services, German American Chamber of Commerce South (Atlanta).

 

“Why the US Market – Challenges and New Opportunities for German Companies.”

In 2019, the Alabama Department of Commerce opened a business development office in Stuttgart, Germany, to enhance the state’s strategic efforts to attract European companies considering job-creating investments in the U.S. Christoph Doerr, an experienced German businessman who spent seven years in charge of an industrial operation in Alabama, serves as the director of the state’s European office. He will present the current German/European economic and business outlook for the state.

The first meeting of the year for the committee will be hosted by the new committee chair, Dieter Wiedmann, Plant Director/General Manager, RESRG Automotive.

Introduction of the new Paint line “Polonium”. In production since the second week of 2026, followed by a discussion called “Adoption of CHANGE” – change was and is always part of industrialization, but has become more pressing due to political changes, cultural changes, AI, and the fact that companies are merging or establishing Joint Ventures.

  • Why is change and its challenges so important?
  • What do changes do to individuals in all hierarchies of a company?
  • How can a company help itself or get support?

The Miele Manufacturing Inc. facility in Opelika is the first of its kind in the U.S., designed to produce premium kitchen ovens and ranges exclusively for the North American market.
