We are excited to welcome the German athletes and team to the World Games 2022 from July 7 to July 17 in Birmingham.
Our conversation with Sabine Krapf will cover everything from how does one qualify for the World Games, how many German athletes have already qualified, what sport disciplines they will participate in, any new disciplines to be excited about, what does it mean for an athlete to participate in the World Games and much more.
Sabine Krapf is the head of the Top Olympic Sports Department of the National Olympic Committee for Germany. She was an active competitive athlete in modern pentathlon from 1976 to 1993 and took part in 13 world championships. A 7-time German champion, and won 11 world championship medals and one European championship title. In addition, Sabine Krapf took part in two world championships as a fencer and won a team world championship title in 1990.

Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark
The tour will start at 5:45 p.m. with one of their knowledgeable tour guides. From 1882 to 1971, one of Alabama’s most iconic landmarks operated as a pig iron-producing blast furnace, invigorating the surrounding economy and propelled Birmingham to national status. It will be an awe-inspired, up-close experience of the size and power of the 20th-century blast furnace, machines, buildings, and other aspects of the furnace that made Sloss run for 90 years. Please wear closed-toed shoes.
The tour will take one hour and then we will walk across the street to the Back Forty Beer Company refreshments. If you can’t make the tour – please join us here around 7:00 p.m.

The park is also host to the Porsche Track Experience.

Jeff was pro racecar driver for 14 years, with numerous championships, including 1985 Skip Barber Racing Series and ‘90 IMSA Firestone Firehawk GS. Was 1993 SCCA Trans-Am Rookie of the Year. Has raced in Indy Lights, Super Vee, S2000, Pro Sports Renault, IMSA GTU Series for Dodge, IMSA GTP for Tom Milner Racing, Team BMW and Panoz Racing, among others.
We will end our visit with the Hot Laps. During Hot Laps you will ride as a passenger with a professional driver in a Porsche (four-door Panameras or Taycans – don’t be fooled by the four-door – 0 to 0-60 mph in under 2.5 seconds) and get the FULL EXPERIENCE on the amazing track. Join us for a fun event where you get to taste 5+ German-style beers brewed by dedicated homebrewers. The homebrewers will be competing for bragging rights as the winner of our very first German-style homebrewing competition.
You get to vote for your favorite beer while enjoying a WUNDERBAR German sample platter with tastes of Schnitzel, Bratwurst, Curry Sausage, Frikadelle, Fleischkäse, Bratkartoffeln, Sauerkraut and Traditional Pretzel with Beer cheese dip. German beer and other beverages can be purchased separately. You will also be able to purchase homemade German sausages and other goodies to take home.
All participants get to enter their vote for the “AGP People’s Choice 2022”.
At 1 p.m. an official panel of guest judges will select the “AGP Best in German-Style Homebrew 2022”. Our guest judges represent:
