This month marks the 250th Anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven’s birth, a musical genius who was born into a time with even more upheaval than our own.
This talk will delve into Beethoven’s life and his importance as a German composer. In the end, you will understand why Beethoven’s music ranks amongst the most performed of the classical music repertoire.
Join us as we will celebrate the arguably most famous German composer on his 250th birthday:
Wednesday, December 16, 2020, 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. CST, Zoom Webinar

We will be joined by Dr. Craig E. Bertolet, Professor of English at Auburn University and co-president of the Auburn Chamber Music Society.

Moderator for this event: Dr. Traci O’Brien, VP for Culture, AGP Executive Committee & Associate Professor, Department Chair, Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, Auburn University.
The first 25 minutes will be spent with Dr. Bertolet exploring the Revolutionary period when Beethoven is writing music. It is an important time in German history and German cultural identity. Dr. Bertolet will share Beethoven’s career and his importance as the first successful self-employed composer, and how he influences the way music was composed and listened to. Followed with 5 minutes Q & A. The last part will be a recorded Beethoven symphony.
We hope that you take a break from the world of Covid-19 and enjoy an hour with us and your closest, to learn about the famous Beethoven and allow yourself to get swept away in his incredible music.
